Pele played 2 decades ( professionally from 1957 to 1977, with his Best from 1958 to 1970 ) against The defenders from National teams of England, Italy, USSR, France, Germany etc and Teams like Boca Juniors, Milan, Peñarol, Benfica, Sao Paulo etc Not Just in official championships but also in short term International Tournaments between European and South American teams a very common event in 1960s;

So, amongst the best defenders and goal keepers of all time are just those of Peles time.For example, can anyone think in better defenders than Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore, Nilton Santos, Facchetti, Figueroa and goal keepers better than Yashin, Leão and Gordon Banks, to cite but a few ?No, I dont think so.

At 1960s the money from Europe couldn't hired the very exceptional ones but just to whose were not so or in the end of career.By the mid of 1980s all had changed, after the decadence of NASL in the end of 1970s, the euro moneys had acquired power and even the less talented was already by europeans hired.Anyway, here a little example of Pele against the Best European teams from those times: /watch?v=--_W_oR-Cn0&feature=r elated
