I a 21 year old american boy and I'm a huge fan of gilberto gil. His music has shown me the beauty and Brazilian music and energy as well as the beauty of the people and I hope very much to travel there some day!

I come to this party (festa)/ I know that many people has/ the Sun-God as a sight in their forehead (testa)/ I, a devotee, bring a basket of backyard's hapiness, backyard's/ There's a jug, who sends it is the Goddess Music/ asking to let, asking to let/ to pour the balm/ to make the song sings the singing lalaía

It worths how much it weighs/ to this one who appreciates the drum's sound, drum's (a joke that we lose in translation. In brazilian portuguese, "bumbum" [sound, here]can also be an interpretation of the drum's sound]/Eternal fire to put the hell to flight to other place/Eternal fire to consume it/ The hell away from here!Lalaía etc...away from herelalaía...

So, we start:I get up on this stage/ My soul smells talcum powder/ as baby's backside, baby's (actually, "bumbum" in portuguese is a childish word for bottom)/ My aura is clear/ just who is farsighted can see, can see/ I bring my band/ just who knows where is Luanda/ will know give it value, give it value/

I'm very happy that so many people from other countrys commented in this brazilian music. And, knowing that no one asked, I want to translate it, with my problematic english, for this people understand a bit of what Gil's saying. |
