Most definitely not finished with my training at first degree, just getting started in a sense =) And I agree completely, The traditions of these arts are being overlooked for entertainment purposes. In my eyes, being so aggressive and trying to gain fame from fighting is really disrespectful. I am somewhat offended by MMA only because it shadows in what my eyes is the "true" purpose of the martial arts, which isn't to go around hurting one another. Thank you for your kind words on my test.

Best of luck to you on your test, it's exciting yes, but also very demanding. As a new black belt you have to remember one thing. Earning that belt doesn't mean you're finished. This just means that you are ready to learn the bread and butter of traditional martial arts. "The end is only the beginning."What upsets me about MMA is how it has overshadowed the traditional arts and how it disrespects their values.I wish you all the best, and don't let your potential for growth stop there.

I liked your comment man. I think Jiu Jitsu is cool stuff. I do Traditional TaeKwonDo, and Japanese Karate from the Shorin-Ryu system. We also have a grappling teacher that comes in twice a week. I actually test for my first degree black belt this Friday, pretty excited. I think any form of martial arts is great, just disciplining yourself, learning something unique. I share similar beliefs as you displayed in your comment on conduct, and had to cultivate a good thing, take care.

Wow...impressive. But fighting each other just to see who's better than who doesn't prove anything. What I like about Japanese Jujutsu is one of it's philosophies, "The one way to win a fight and assure victory, is not to get into one."Major difference between traditional values and hot headed athletes with major ego issues.I, along with other trained martial artist, believe in a universal code of conduct. We shouldn't prove ourselve to any one, other than ourselves. Goodluck.
